KEY WEST, Fla. (July 19, 8:10 am ADT) - In a dispute fitting of an Ernest Hemingway novel, two bars in the hard-drinking author's former home are fighting over rights to use the name of his old watering hole.
But this bar brawl is taking place in court.
Sloppy Joe's Bar and Captain Tony's Saloon are half a block from each other in Key West, and both claim Hemingway used to drink there.

Carter, Gorbachev, others file brief with high court
Jimmy Carter, Mikhail Gorbachev, the American Medical Association and 48 nations are among those who lobbied the Supreme Court Monday to end the execution of killers who committed their crimes before age 18.
The United States executed more young killers than the rest of the world combined between 1990 and 2003, the diplomats’ filing said.
In the past four years, only five nations have executed juveniles, the diplomats said: Congo, China, Iran, Pakistan and the United States.

The frank accounts, which became "must-reads" in Washington, included descriptions of sexual favours for money, which she said she needed to supplement her 25,000-dollar per year pay check.
According to the Times, which wrote that the novel would be called 'Washingtonienne' after its author, Cutler also has agreed to pose nude for the November 2004 issue of Playboy.

THE BOOB-ONIC PLAGUE!
Mysterious new disease turns big-breasted babes into flat-chested females
LOS ANGELES -- Chesty swimsuit models and Hollywood starlets are running scared -- because of a new disease that whittles large breasts down into teensy nubs not much bigger than mosquito bites!
Spider-Man 2 star Kirsten Dunst ordered video game designers to tone down the animated version of her character Mary Jane - because they gave her over-inflated breasts.
The actress was asked to give her approval for the sequel's new merchandise and had to chastise the game's saucy creators.
She says: "I got to approve the video game, the way she looks. They made her boobs gigantic. I was like, 'Tone down the boobs, please!" It was a little ridiculous."

Report: Bigger breasts offered as perk to soldiers
Wednesday, July 21, 2004 Posted: 6:46 PM EDT (2246 GMT)
NEW YORK (Reuters) -- The U.S. Army has long lured recruits with the slogan "Be All You Can Be," but now soldiers and their families can receive plastic surgery, including breast enlargements, on the taxpayers' dime.
The New Yorker magazine reports in its July 26th edition that members of all four branches of the U.S. military can get face-lifts, breast enlargements, liposuction and nose jobs for free -- something the military says helps surgeons practice their skills.
"Anyone wearing a uniform is eligible," Dr. Bob Lyons, chief of plastic surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio told the magazine, which said soldiers needed the approval of their commanding officers to get the time off.
Between 2000 and 2003, military doctors performed 496 breast enlargements and 1,361 liposuction surgeries on soldiers and their dependents, the magazine said.
The magazine quoted an Army spokeswoman as saying, "the surgeons have to have someone to practice on."

U.S. troops buying own armor for Iraq duty
(AP) -- Soldiers headed for Iraq are still buying their own body armor -- and in many cases, their families are buying it for them -- 。。。
Dan Britt paid about $1,400 for body armor for his son, a medic stationed in Kuwait who had orders to move into Baghdad. He recently heard his son received it.
“They do have many individuals in influential positions. And that's why this is something that we need to know about.”

CHICAGO, Illinois (AP) -- A Japanese man flying to Ohio was arrested after he was seen writing down the words "suicide bomb," but he was released without charge after explaining that it was an impromptu English exercise.
The 60-year-old man told investigators he came across the words in a newspaper and wanted to look up their meaning, police spokeswoman Alice Casanova said.
"He teaches himself English by reading newspapers," she said. "It was all just a miscommunication."
The man was aboard United Airlines flight 1184 en route to Dayton, Ohio, on a business trip Sunday when a fellow passenger spotted the words and alerted an attendant, Casanova said.
The flight returned to O'Hare International Airport, where the man was taken into custody and all of the other 120 passengers were taken off the plane and rescreened.
Investigators also searched the plane. "Nothing panned out and he was released," Casanova said.
Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman Andrea McCauley said travelers need to be mindful of how they behave on airplanes because potential security threats are treated very seriously.
"We caution people not to write about bombs because if they're going on vacation, their travel plans will be disrupted," she said.

The pressure may be getting to Mr. Bush. He came up with a gem of a Freudian slip yesterday. At a signing ceremony for a $417 billion military spending bill, the president said:
"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we.
They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."

LOS ANGELES - A jury recommended that a vice president of legal affairs at Sony Pictures Entertainment and his wife should pay more than $500,000 in damages to a woman who claimed that they kept her as an indentured servant.
A jury on Thursday found James and Elizabeth Jackson liable for subjecting Nena Ruiz to involuntary servitude and for negligence and fraud. Elizabeth Jackson was also deemed liable for assault and battery.
"Of course, we're very disappointed in the verdict," said their attorney, Jack Daniels. He said his clients were considering an appeal.
Ruiz, 60, claimed in a Superior Court lawsuit filed last year that she often worked at least 18 hours a day and was forced to do strange household chores such as heating chicken nuggets and cutting up bananas or pears for two dogs.
She said she was paid $300 for a year's work at the couple's Culver City condominium.
Ruiz also alleged that she had to sleep in a dog bed and that Elizabeth Jackson repeatedly slapped her and pulled her hair.

NOW MUSEUM, NOW YOU DON'T
By DEVIN SMITH
August 25, 2004 -- A 20-year employee of the Nassau County Museums Division pleaded guilty yesterday to stealing more than 2,000 artifacts, including a small model of a Wright airplane that fetched more than $100,000 at auction.
The plea agreement called for Kappeler to serve 1½ to 4½ years in prison and pay full restitution in the amount of about $249,000. In exchange, Nassau prosecutors agreed to drop numerous charges from two indictments against Kappeler.
Here are a few Baghdad Bob classics from the spring of 2003 (courtesy of one of his many Web shrines), verbatim. See if you can imagine them coming out of the mouth of our president speaking to the press today.
"I will only answer reasonable questions."
"No, I am not scared, and neither should you be."
"Be assured: Baghdad is safe, protected."
"We are in control, they are not in control of anything, they don't even control themselves!"
"The battle is very fierce and God made us victorious."
"They mock me for how I speak. I speak better English than they do."
